Website design & development: heuristics & usability (Session 10 )
September 20, 2007
The network was down, so we moved to Computer Lab 2. But it's the same. There's supposed to be 3 people presenting today, but since we are unable to access the internet, only Shafina presented because she's the only one of the 3 presenters who have her presentation file in her thumb drive. She presented her points and provided some sample web development tools such as Joomla and slide.com.
We were prepared to leave early today because the Internet is not working. But suddenly, one of our classmate informed us that the Internet is already working
. Hehehe.... no chance for us to go back early.
After the Maghrib break, we continued with Shima's and Fazu's presentation. Shima presented her points on the topics and provided 2 university websites by comparing their usability features.
Fazu then presented quite comprehensively on the web usibility and heuristics specifically targeted for the teenagers. We are suppose to come out with our sitemap for our task 2. Will work on that and post it here later.

Issues using the internet for teachers and students (session 8)
September 6, 2007
My review on Aisah's presentation.
Our group work topic is Appropriateness and Effectiveness. Team members are myself (Asma), Fenny and Azmir. Here's a summary of our discussion.
We have basically categorised Appropriateness into 2 criteria:- originality as well as the relevance of the content.
As for Effectiveness, another 2 criteria:- User friendliness and Aesthetic.
For an educational to be effective and appropriate, it must fulfil all 4 criteria: Original, relevant, user-friendly and Aesthetic.

Reflection (Session 7)
August 30, 2007
When creating contents, it's better to try to incorporate activities that can stimulate the use of both sides of the brain. Most of the activities used by teachers requires extensive use of the left side of the brain.Try to get the students to use their creativity, which involves the right side of the brain.

How To Make a Cupcake
Imagine yourself teaching a cooking class. The topic of the day is making CUPCAKES.
You teach your students the basics, step by step in order to make a cupcake. (sequential thinking - left brain)
Using advance organizers such worksheets helps provides the learning structure (left brain).
You then ask the students to create their own version of cupcakes that incorporates various styles including colors, shapes, flavors, smell, etc. (creativity - right brain)

Case Study - From F2F to Online Class
August 29, 2007
Case Study:
Scenario: F2F class was canceled due to lecturer's last minute call for conference. Hence, all students were informed via several methods - online, word of mouth, sms forwarding. Students were to be engaged in an online class instead of F2F.
Here's my analysis of the pros and cons of the online class situation.
Frankly speaking, I thanked God that the class was canceled. This was due to a workshop that my PXGT6307 (Designing Training) friends and I had to conduct since early morning that day, and that was also the day that I was supposed to do my presentation. We actually had a very tough week as we have t organize and conduct 3 workshops. Boy, am I glad that it's over. It was really mentally and physically tiring.
However, I did not upload my presentation the day itself as I was so exhausted when I got back home. Then the "UPSI" virus infected my PC. The virus kept on closing my browser. Thanks to my hubby, he managed to remove it from my PC.
Thank you for the feedback that a few of you have given on my presentation. Since we have to present it online, I...

Internet As Communication Tools, Lifelong Learning (Session 6)
August 27, 2007
Dear PXGT 6110,
My slide presentation can be viewed here.
The site that I have chosen was our PXGT6102 class FrOG. You can go to the FrOG and take a look of what's happening there. There are a lot of active discussion.
The thing that I feel interesting is that not only the series of discussion were done by the existing PXGT6102 students, sometimes, when the topic discussed is interesting, the past years students get involved as well.
We are now experiencing the actual EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING of the topic that I am presenting.
Do let me know if there's any parts of the presentation that is not clear and requires further explanation.
Asma.
